If you get a letter from the Tax Agency

An information request or a proposed assessment comes with short deadlines, and it pays to get the answer right first time. We look at what is being asked, cross-check your invoices, accounting records and returns against the Tax Agency’s data, and prepare the response or appeal with the supporting documents numbered and in order.

Send us the notification as soon as you receive it. If it was delivered to the online office or to your official electronic notification address (dirección electrónica habilitada), the deadline may start to run even if you have not opened it.

Frequently asked questions

The Tax Agency has asked for my VAT record books. What should I do?

This is a common request in VAT reviews. We prepare the record books from your accounts, check that they match your invoices and what you have declared, and file them together with any other documents requested.

Can I defer payment of a tax debt?

In many cases, yes, subject to conditions and timescales that depend on the amount and your circumstances. We assess whether it makes more sense to defer, pay in instalments or request a suspension, and make the application for you.

I think I overpaid on a tax return. Can I get the money back?

You can ask for the return to be corrected and the overpayment refunded, provided the limitation period has not expired. We review your case and tell you whether it is worth pursuing.
